Forever Isn’t Real

Forever Isn’t Real is a trompe l’oeil enlarged friendship necklace that symbolizes the way friendships evolve and childhood dreams are left behind. To achieve a “fool the eye” look, the dimensions are proportional to an actual necklace with loose chain links that give the piece movement and personality the same way we attach emotion and sentiment to lifeless objects. I intended to capture how an old necklace might be found laying in a junk drawer. Initially inspired by the phrase “BFF,” my piece aims to respond to the idiom by showing how “forever” is not always attainable or realistic. Instead, I try to show how changes in friendship and our childhood dreams should be acknowledged and embraced.
